I recently adopted a rescue dog, and she seems really scared of everything — sudden movements, strangers, even me sometimes. I’m trying to be patient, but I don’t want to do anything that could make things worse. What are the best ways to gain a scared dog’s trust and help her feel secure and loved? How long does this usually take?

Helping a scared dog trust you takes time, consistency, and gentle care. As FlatRover explains https://www.flatrover.com/blog/how-to-get-a-scared-dog-to-trust-you-step-by-step/ , using calm body language, offering treats, and creating a safe, quiet space are key starting points. Avoid forcing interaction — let the dog approach at her own pace. Routine helps build confidence, so stick to regular feeding and walks. Speak softly and reward positive behavior. Progress may be slow, but every small sign of trust is a big step. Celebrate these wins and stay patient. Building a bond with a fearful dog is incredibly rewarding. Over time, your love and consistency will reshape her world.
